many came on that day
they were legion but most were bare
like devils shouting across the square
upon an unsuspecting group
wanders by few and by name

a beast with big teeth
was calling my name

in the back of my mind they sleep
in my aching head they are again
in the kind of chariots they bring
of fire but not of land

a beast most fowl
a taste of fever sweet

they came for me on that day
like mind altering defeat
they prayed upon the hollow ground
upon the sacred few
that knew what was really going down
they came like smoke and arose

beasts gnawing at my feet
brain beaten hardened like gum
a feeling of numb became my fate
as the devils ate
they ate like hounds

then unaware I was kneeling down
one less beast became aware
of that erasing sound
kicking my brain with every pound
no more beasts because I'm free now
